In a Comment piece in the August 2013 issue of Nature, Eleonore Pauwels explores the use of metaphors inside and outside the synthetic biology laboratory. From the piece:
Scientists using metaphors among themselves are often aware of, and even careful to point out, the subtleties that could be misconstrued. Problems arise when metaphors are used outside the laboratory.
